Partners – Skill Up Tennessee: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment & Training

Partnering With Us

What is SNAP E&T?

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training (SNAP E&T) is a partnership between the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and states to provide training and employment services to eligible SNAP participants. The purpose of the program is to assist SNAP participants in gaining skills, training, work or experience that will increase their ability to obtain regular employment. The ultimate goal is self-sufficiency.

In Tennessee, the program is administered by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development through a partnership with the Tennessee Department of Human Services. UT Extension provides SNAP E&T as a partner.

Ways to Partner

Often, employers struggle to find skilled, reliable and capable workers. SNAP E&T aims to change this by reaching the people in our community who want to work but may not be aware of how to gain the skills required. We are asking you to partner with us to help people in your community gain the ability to become employed and self-sufficient for life.

Partnering with SNAP E&T means becoming a conduit between our program and the people in your community who could benefit from our services. Together, we can empower people by pointing them toward a sustainable future that includes skills training, guidance and self-sufficiency.

Here are some ways you can partner with us:

⋆ Recruit people you know and work with
⋆ Provide an opportunity for us to speak to groups and staff
⋆ Work with us to design opportunities for additional training services
⋆ Interview and hire qualified SNAP E&T participants when possible

Benefits of Partnership

  • You will be providing participants with the opportunity to develop desirable skills such as self-determination, time management, effective communication and teamwork. (Does this sound like someone you would like to hire?) Career exploration and navigation will be provided by qualified professionals to ensure participants receive the support needed to be successful.
